Women in AI and Tech: How I Built My Empire One Click at a Time
By Nina Capone · August 3, 2026Weekly · Editorial Assist

Let me keep it real with you: I'm not a coder. I didn't go to college for computer science. I'm a woman over 40 from Philly who sings, raps, writes books, runs a global radio station, and manages multiple businesses — and I taught myself every tech tool I use. AI didn't scare me away. I made it work for me.
When I started building In Da Streets Radio and the Mob Mistress Chronicles digital book series, I knew I couldn't afford to hire a whole tech team. So I rolled up my sleeves and learned. I use tools like ChatGPT and Claude to brainstorm content, draft marketing copy, and troubleshoot ideas. I use Canva Pro for graphics and social media visuals. I use WordPress to manage my websites. I use streaming platforms, automation tools, and analytics dashboards to keep everything running smooth.
Here's the thing about AI and tech that nobody tells you: most of these tools are designed for regular people now. You don't need to understand the code behind ChatGPT to use it. You don't need to be a graphic designer to create fire visuals in Canva. You don't need to be a web developer to build a functional, beautiful site. You just need curiosity and the willingness to try.
I remember the first time I used an AI writing assistant. I was skeptical. Would it sound like me? Would it replace my voice? But I learned fast that AI is a co-pilot, not a replacement. I still write my own stories, my own lyrics, my own vision. AI just helps me move faster and think bigger. It's like having a creative partner who never sleeps.
Women — especially women of color, women over 40, women who didn't get the traditional tech training — we've been told for too long that this space isn't for us. That's a lie. The truth is, we're already using tech every single day. We're on social media, we're running businesses from our phones, we're creating content that moves the culture. Learning to use AI and modern tools is just the next step.
I'm not saying it's always easy. I've spent late nights watching YouTube tutorials, asking questions in online forums, and yes, making mistakes. But every tool I learned opened a new door. My Biz Consulting, my consulting practice, exists because I can now help other creators and small business owners navigate this same journey. I teach what I know because somebody needed to teach me — and I had to figure it out myself.
If you're a woman reading this and you've been scared to dive into AI or tech, start small. Pick one tool. Maybe it's ChatGPT for brainstorming. Maybe it's Canva for creating a flyer. Maybe it's a simple website builder like Wix or WordPress. You don't have to master everything at once. Just start. Click the button. Watch the tutorial. Ask the question.
Through Inspire Da Streets, our 501(c)(3) non-profit, we're working on tech training and digital literacy for artists and young people because I know firsthand how game-changing these skills are. This isn't just about keeping up with trends. This is about ownership. This is about building your empire with your own two hands and the tools available to all of us in 2026.
I built In Da Streets Radio, published multiple books in the Mob Mistress Chronicles, launched a non-profit, and ran a consulting business — all while learning the tech along the way. If I can do it, so can you. Women belong in AI and tech not because we need permission, but because we're already here building.
