Building My Empire With AI: A Love Letter to Women Ready to Create Their Own Tech

Let me tell you something real: I built In Da Streets Radio, published the Mob Mistress Chronicles, run Inspire Da Streets as a registered 501(c)(3), manage My Biz Consulting, and put out my music — all while teaching myself the tech and AI tools that make it possible. No fancy degree. No Silicon Valley connections. Just me, YouTube tutorials, trial and error, and a refusal to let anyone tell me I couldn't figure it out.

Women in tech isn't just about coding bootcamps or venture capital — though respect to those sisters getting that done. For me, it's about women like us who are building media empires, running independent businesses, and creating opportunities for our communities using the same AI and digital tools the big companies use. I work with ChatGPT for content planning and research, Canva for graphics, DistroKid for music distribution, StreamYard for broadcasts, and a whole ecosystem of tools I learned one frustrated afternoon at a time.

The biggest lie they tell us is that tech is too hard, too male, too young, or requires some special brain we don't have. That's gatekeeping, plain and simple. I'm over 40. I came up in Philly hip-hop when studios had tape machines and mixing boards you had to touch with your actual hands. Now I'm using AI voice tools, automation platforms, and cloud-based everything. If I can learn it while juggling four businesses and my mental health journey, you absolutely can too.

Here's what I wish someone had told me earlier: start messy. Pick one tool that solves one problem you have right now. Need graphics? Open Canva and mess around for 20 minutes. Need to write faster? Try ChatGPT or Claude and learn to talk to it like a creative partner, not a magic robot. Need a website? Wix, Squarespace, or WordPress — pick one and build something imperfect today. The learning happens in the doing, not in the waiting until you feel ready.

I use AI tools almost daily now — for brainstorming radio show topics, organizing my nonprofit's outreach plans, drafting email campaigns for My Biz Consulting clients, even helping structure chapters when I'm deep in a Mob Mistress book. It's not about replacing my voice or creativity. It's about having a tireless assistant that helps me move faster and think bigger. That's power. That's leverage. And that's available to you right now, most of it for free or cheap.

The women I see thriving in this space aren't necessarily the ones with the most resources — they're the ones with the most curiosity and the least fear of looking foolish while they learn. They ask questions in Facebook groups. They watch TikTok tutorials. They try the free trial and see what happens. They build their creator businesses, their consulting practices, their art, and their movements with tools that didn't exist ten years ago.

What I love about this moment — October 2026 — is that AI and tech tools are more accessible than ever, and the gate is wide open. You don't need anyone's permission. You don't need to wait for a class or a mentor or the perfect moment. You need Wi-Fi, a willingness to fail a few times, and a vision for what you're building. I had the vision for In Da Streets Radio before I knew how to set up a streaming server. I figured it out because I had to. You will too.

So this is my call to the women and creators out there sitting on an idea, a business, a message, or a dream: the tools are here. The technology is not your enemy — it's your amplifier. Learn one new thing this week. Build one small thing this month. In a year, you'll look back and barely recognize how far you've come. I'm proof. Let's build together.

Drop a comment and tell me: what's one tool or tech skill you've been scared to try? Or if you're already building, what's your go-to tool that changed the game for you? Let's learn from each other.
